Each day people suffer from severe injuries like brain trauma, amputations, burn injuries, and spinal cord injuries. These types of severe injuries are referred to as catastrophic injuries. California personal injury lawyer Robert A. Brenner has been litigating these cases since beginning his practice in the 1970s. Brenner is a well-established personal injury attorney with a law practice in Woodland Hills.
Personal injury lawyers represent clients that have experienced some type of injury that results in damages. “It is the job of a personal injury attorney to help a client recover compensation for their injuries, as well as damages for their pain and suffering. I have found that the best way to do this is to understand the nature of these injuries and the kind of care necessary.”
Brenner’s personal injury practice focuses on helping individuals suffering from catastrophic injuries. Although Brenner could have chosen to focus on less severe and less complex injury cases, he has committed his time and legal expertise to the victims of catastrophic injuries. “I really enjoy the satisfaction that comes from helping the people that are suffering the most,” said Brenner.
Brenner has been legal counsel on some important personal injury cases. He was co-counsel for a 1998 personal injury lawsuit that resulted in a 34 million dollar recovery. The plaintiffs, two electricians, sustained severe second and third degree burns from an electrical explosion that occurred at their workplace. The heat generated by the explosion reached 5,000 degrees Fahrenheit. The severity of the burns over a substantial portion of the plaintiffs’ bodies helped lead to this multimillion-dollar verdict.
Negligence is the most common legal theory used to recover damages in personal injury lawsuits. Negligence refers to a person’s failure to act as a reasonable person would in the same or similar circumstances. “When a person’s carelessness causes significant injury that results in consequences like medical costs, a physical disability, or even substantial pain and suffering, the injured person may be able to receive compensation for their injuries,” commented Brenner.
Other types of claims personal injury lawyers assist clients with involve workers’ compensation benefits. Workers’ compensation is a statutory remedy that compensates workers for workplace injuries. “Workers’ compensation,” stated Brenner “provides benefits regardless of who is at fault.”Receiving benefits for a workers’ compensation claim is not always easy. “It can be a really difficult and complicated process,” said Brenner. “Sometimes a little assistance from an attorney can help.”
Robert A. Brenner earned a J.D. from Whittier College, Beverly School of Law. Brenner is an active member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Million Dollar Advocates Forum, and he has been selected as a Super Lawyer for the last five years.
